What Does Sleep Consulting Entail?

As a sleep consultant, I am there to only change any aspects of your child’s sleep that you would like changed! Once you fill out the intake form I get to work on your sleep plan that will cover steps on how to get your child to sleep better. I take into account your child's age, temperament and your parenting philosophy. The sleep plan will include many different areas such as routines, schedules, science behind your child’s sleep, two methods you can choose from, and any other relevant tips specific to your situation. Then we have 2 or 3 weeks to work through the plan and make any necessary changes along the way.

Can I Just Read a Book or Search Methods Online Instead of Hiring a Consultant?

Of course you can! Sometimes that works great for families and sometimes it doesn't, either route is perfectly fine. Sleep training is dependent on many factors. Books and online may not be able to take everything into account for you properly in some situations. Although I use the same methods you can find online or in books, I can help you decide on what may work best for your situation. Not every child is the same. So a method that works for one child that is two years of age, may not work for another. Occasionally it works best for some situations to mix some methods or change one method slightly. My job is taking the guesswork out for you and cheering you on along the way!

Will My Child Cry During Sleep Training?

The great thing about sleep training is that there are different methods we can use. So if one method is not working there are more to choose from. We will never use the tactic of leaving your child to cry themselves to sleep! It is ultimately up to you how much you want to be involved with the methods. Some methods allow you to stay in the room the whole time and others allow you to step out of the room for a minute. The choice is ultimately up to you. It is important to note though that not all tears are avoidable. Crying is the main way your child can communicate to you that they do not know what to do with this new change. They now have to find a new way to fall asleep and they are frustrated with it. We will just be comforting them in a new way instead during training and this will still be effective.
